The Ultimate Boudoir Prep Guide-How To Get Ready Like A Pro
/Congratulations, you’ve done it! You’ve booked your boudoir session!
You might have thought the nerves would go away as soon as you signed that contract, but they didn’t. Surely, these tips will help get you feel ready to take on the day! And I won’t call you Shirley. (teehee)
The first thing you need to do after booking your session with me is to start thinking about what you want to wear. Most people’s minds immediately go to lingerie when they think about what to wear for these sessions. That’s definitely an important option, but it isn’t the only one!
You can wear a cozy sweater and some knee high socks, a button down shirt, a favorite tee shirt, or nothing at all! You get to wear 3-5 outfits, so let’s switch it up!
As part of your session fee, you and I will go shopping together! So, if you don’t have anything you’d like to wear, we’ll find it! If you already have all of the outfits you want to wear, we can just do lunch!
NEXT, I’d love it if you start a stretching routine tailored to your capabilities. Not necessarily daily, but at least a few times a week. One thing I hear often is that posing is a lot more work than they expected. It’d be great to start loosening up as early as possible!
The Week Before Your Boudoir Session:
-Hang out with whoever gives you the most dopamine. Got a friend that has a knack for making you feel better about yourself? Is your partner hilarious? Those dopamine hits will having you riding high until your session.
-Try to avoid things or people that bring you down. Does your social media feed like to show you things that depress you? Is someone in your life a Negative Nancy? You should probably remove them anyway, but at the very least don’t expose yourself to that negativity the week before your shoot!
-Make sure your hair is how you want it to be. I have a bad habit of letting my grays grow out for far longer than is socially acceptable. If I was paying this kind of money for an experience like this, I would not want that documented. However, this is not the time for experimentation. Don’t try a new color because you might hate it and that will show on your face.
-Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. You should be doing this anyway.
The Day Before Your Boudoir Session:
-Nail check. They don’t have to be professionally done, but if they are they shouldn’t be two weeks grown out or chipped.
-Try your outfits on again. We gotta make sure they fit how you want them to fit. If they don’t quite fit, don’t freak out! We have ways to work around that.
-Wax or shave if you don’t want body hair. Please don’t do this in the morning before your session, your skin will likely still be inflamed.
-Get a good night’s rest. I know you’re excited and nervous and all the things, but you gotta get that sleep in!
The Day of Your Shoot!
-It’s game time, baby! Get yourself a light breakfast that won’t upset your stomach. If you’re me, that does not exist, but you know your body best!
-Wash and moisturize your face. Don’t try any new skincare products out, they could cause issues with your skin.
-Make sure your hair is clean and dry. Please don’t show up with wet hair, it takes so much more time to dry hair before styling it and our schedule is set up in a way that doesn’t allow for that extra time.
-Make sure your outfits are all in your bag. And grab some accessories, too, if you’d like!
-Be ready to tell the hairstylist/makeup artist if there’s a look you want to go for, or if there’s something you don’t like.
-Stretch one last time.
If you’re still feeling nervous, that’s normal! When you’re sitting in the styling chair and we’re all just chit-chatting like old friends, those nerves will start to melt away!
